SMI Employees Come Together for Charity Cable Stripping Challenge

Team working through a team building activity at SMI

At SMI, giving back to the community is an important part of who we are. As part of our commitment to supporting our Charity of the Year, Countess of Brecknock Hospice, our team recently brought a creative SMI twist to fundraising … hosting a cable stripping contest.

Bringing together colleagues from across the business, the challenge combined a bit of friendly competition with a shared goal, raising vital funds for a truly meaningful cause. The Countess of Brecknock Hospice provides compassionate care and support to patients and families facing life-limiting illnesses, making every contribution count.

Teamwork and Friendly Competition

The contest saw colleagues go head-to-head to strip and process cables as efficiently as possible, turning everyday skills into a purposeful activity; our skilled technicians were obliged to use their non-dominant hand as the took on colleagues from the administrative functions in the business. Throughout the event, the atmosphere was full of energy, camaraderie, and plenty of encouragement, as colleagues supported one another.

A special congratulations goes to our winner, Jasmine Matthews, who demonstrated outstanding skill, efficiency, and determination to take the top spot. Their efforts added an extra layer of excitement to the day and helped drive the overall success of the event.

Beyond the competition itself, the activity provided an opportunity for employees to connect, collaborate, and step away from their usual roles to contribute in a different way. Events like these highlight the strength of our team culture and the shared commitment to making a positive impact.

Supporting a Vital Cause

Every effort made during the contest contributed to fundraising for the Countess of Brecknock Hospice, helping to support the essential services they provide to individuals and families in our community. From specialist medical care to emotional and practical support, the hospice plays a crucial role in improving quality of life during some of the most challenging times.

At SMI, we are proud to stand behind such an important organisation and to see our employees actively involved in supporting its mission.

As we continue our fundraising journey, we look forward to more opportunities to come together, support our chosen charity, and make a lasting impact in our community.
