Sailing With Purpose: SMI Returns to the Reginald Fessenden Challenge
The wind was high, the competition fierce, and the cause deeply meaningful. This summer, SMI once again charted a course for impact at the Reginald Fessenden Challenge, an annual regatta where spirited sailing meets charitable purpose. Hosted on the scenic waters of the Solent, the race raises vital funds for two remarkable organisations: The Not Forgotten and The Submarine Family, both dedicated to supporting UK veterans and their families.
Among our crew was veteran Dean Upson, whose calm strength and wealth of experience brought fresh energy and collaboration to every tack and turn. His presence reminded us why this event matters and what true service looks like, both on and off the water.
SMI are proud holders of the Armed Forces Covenant Bronze Award, therefore, participation in the regatta isn’t just a day of sailing for SMI, it’s a reflection of our year-round commitment to those who serve.
This unique blend of competition, connection, and charity is a mission with momentum. The Regatta raises essential funds for both The Submarine Family and The Not Forgotten who help tackle isolation through events and outings, providing support and connection to those who served. Together, these organisations make a tangible difference in thousands of lives across the UK, quietly but powerfully.
As the sails came down and the tide settled, this year’s Reginald Fessenden Challenge left us with more than fond memories, it was a powerful reminder of the strength found in unity. At SMI, we’re proud to support those who’ve served, and we are grateful to be part of something far greater than ourselves. Until next year’s race, we’ll carry that spirit forward.
Congratulations to colleagues at Northrop Grumman who took home the trophy this year and great thanks to Brittania Events and Tim Davies for organising a fabulous event.
