Teamwork Really Does Make the Dream Work!
It is with such pleasure that we received the news this month that one of our sterling quality engineers, Rachel Verbinnen, has been nominated for a Women in Defence Award! It’s super exciting to see, and we couldn’t be prouder.
What makes this even better for us at SMI is the category that Rachel has been nominated in – Most Collaborative. At SMI, we pride ourselves on our team and how it works together. Collaboration is such a key part of SMI that in fact it’s one of our four key values, and seeing our own people being nominated because they embody that delights us even more than the nomination itself.
We pride ourselves on the team we’ve created and the teamwork that comes with it. But collaboration goes beyond that. Exemplified by the armed forces that we supply, shared goals and objectives are achieved through open communication and frequent interaction. Empowerment and autonomy enable effective decision making and another of our values, Agility, means that the team can adjust to changing circumstances and unexpected challenges. This ensures smooth progress even when things don’t go according to plan.
Whether it’s been working with colleagues, customers, or suppliers – Rachel’s collaboration is an example we can all follow and aspire to. Collaborative partnerships achieve so much more and through our teamwork over the past over 30 years, we’ve achieved something that no other company has – three decades of MOD Capability Approval for our polyethylene submarine cabling systems. Thermoplastic polyethylene technology created a pedigree of reliability for the Royal Navy and will have a significant role in future defence capability – and it was created through collaboration and teamwork.
The Women in Defence Awards, are of course, an incredibly important part of our support of Women in Defence too. We recognise that the defence industry requires more diversity and to do our part in helping that along, SMI is a signatory to the Women in Defence Charter.
Rachel’s nomination has shown the sheer importance and impact that collaboration and teamwork have. It’s a lot of words, but we’re super proud of Rachel, and it is a pleasure and privilege to have her as a part of our team.
Well done Rachel – good luck with your nomination!
